Implementation

Why implementation?

A core outcome set is an agreed standardised set out come that should be measured and reported, as a minimum, in all clinical trial in specific areas of health or health care. They are included because the core outcomes are critically important to patients, family members, and health professionals, and should be feasible to implement. They do not have to be the primary outcome of the trial, and researchers can add other outcomes and use other outcome measures.

Consistent reporting of critically important outcomes can improve the relevance, certainty, and value of research to support shared decision-making.

The SONG Implementation Workshop was held 3rd November 2017 in New Orleans to discuss the barriers, challenges, and strategies for the use of core outcomes. In total, 81 patients, family members, clinicians, researchers, policy makers, regulators, funders, and industry attended the workshop. A workshop report will be available early 2018.
